13 Russian vessels targeted overnight by Ukrainian drone units: details emerge.
Strike on Russian ships
According to UATV: On the night of July 18, 2023, Ukraine's unmanned systems forces struck 13 Russian vessels in the Black and Azov Seas. The attack disabled eight dry cargo ships, a tanker, a gas carrier, a tugboat, and two floating cranes. This operation is part of a broader campaign aimed at crippling Russia's logistics, particularly its maritime transport of oil and other goods that bypass international sanctions.
Operation 'MoLoChKa'
Since the launch of the operation codenamed 'MoLoChKa', 172 Russian ships have been attacked over a span of 13 days. Robert 'Magyar' Brovdy, a representative of Ukrainian forces, stated:
“The goal of this operation is to destroy Russia's ability to sustain its logistics routes, which has a significant impact on the aggressor’s economy.” - Robert 'Magyar' Brovdy
This assault on vessels in the Black and Azov Seas highlights the active role of Ukrainian forces in countering Russian military capabilities, underscoring the critical importance of controlling maritime routes amid the ongoing conflict.
The operation is part of a wider Ukrainian strategy to diminish Russia's military and economic power at sea. Maintaining control over sea lanes remains vital not only for Ukraine's security but also for regional stability. As sanctions against Russia intensify, dismantling its logistics infrastructure could substantially alter the conflict's trajectory and its economic repercussions.
