The Russian fleet has nearly left the Azov Sea: the main reason.
According to ТСН: Russia has significantly reduced its presence in the waters of the Azov Sea. This is due to both the geographical conditions of the region, which complicate maneuvers, and the high risks of being hit by Ukrainian military forces.
This was announced during a TV marathon by Dmytro Pletenchuk, spokesman for the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to him, the Azov Sea is very inconvenient for the active actions of the Russian fleet due to its natural features. Shallow waters considerably limit the routes for the movement of combat units.
“There is nowhere to be, both in terms of basing and navigation. This is a shallow sea—maximum depth is 15 meters—so the recommended paths are quite narrow,” explained the spokesman for the Navy.
The 'human shield' tactic
The Russian military, aware of the risks, tries to camouflage their movements. When they still decide to enter the water area, they use the cynical tactic of hiding under civilian vessels.
Pletenchuk noted that the Russians are “mixing” their military ships with civilian ones, trying in this way to secure themselves from attacks.
The main deterrent factor for the enemy remains the understanding that staying in the Azov Sea does not guarantee safety. The Ukrainian Defense Forces can reach targets at any point in the region.
“I can’t say that they are constantly there, as the enemy understands that the entire territory of the Azov Sea is under our fire control,” concluded Pletenchuk.
In addition, the Russians have started to deploy MANPADS on the 'Shahed' drones. Radio technology expert Serhiy Beskrestnov explained that the missile launch is carried out by the UAV pilot, who controls it from the territory of the Russian Federation. The expert emphasizes that this is how the Russians continue to look for ways to destroy Ukrainian aviation.
The situation in the Azov Sea remains tense. Ukrainian military forces continue to control the waters, complicating life for the Russian fleet. The reduction of Moscow's presence indicates significant difficulties in their strategy, as even attempts to hide under civilian vessels do not provide the desired safety. At the same time, the Ukrainian side actively monitors the situation, ready to respond to any changes.
