Biden Plans Final Blow to Putin.
The administration of U.S. President Joe Biden is preparing a new large package of sanctions against the Russian energy sector, which could become the culmination of the financial war against Putin's regime.
According to The Washington Post, such actions will also give more opportunities for the Trump administration in negotiations with the Kremlin regarding the end of the war in Ukraine.
According to the publication, the new sanctions are aimed at the 'shadow fleet' and Russian oil exporters who have so far avoided sanction pressures. Particularly important are the revocation of licenses that allow banks to conduct transactions with Russian energy resources.
Peter Harrell, a former senior official in the Biden administration, predicts a significant decline in Russia's export revenues over the next 6-12 months following the sanctions.
A U.S. administration representative emphasizes that such measures are intended to support Ukraine in self-defense and negotiations for a fair peace. Despite the price restrictions, Russia continues to seek alternative markets, especially in China and India.
Experts believe that the new sanctions could lead to a partial depletion of Russian energy resources in the market, but this will have a moderate impact on global prices.
At the same Time, the Russian economy shows signs of instability. The Central Bank of the Russian Federation cannot curb inflation, which reached 8.9% year-on-year in November, despite raising the key rate to 21%.
The situation is complicated by the rapid rise in wages, large defense costs, the devaluation of the ruble, and excessive lending to the private sector, which has increased by 61% since mid-2022. Analysts anticipate further tightening of monetary policy with a possible increase in the rate by another 200 basis points in December.
