Is Belarus Entering the War? 2,000 Conscripts to Be Drafted by July 2.
Belarus Launches Conscription Drive
According to Espreso.tv: Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has reported that Belarus plans to call up roughly 2,000 conscripts between June 20 and July 2. According to Sybiha, this move signals that Belarus is preparing for possible involvement in the war alongside Russia. The military commissariat of the Oshmyany district has already begun setting up preliminary assembly points for the draftees. This development comes amid heightened tensions in the region, where Belarus has increasingly aligned itself with Moscow's military posture.
Readiness for Direct Combat
On June 22, the United Transitional Cabinet of Belarus released a report stating that the country is prepared to take direct part in the war. In addition, the Belarusian opposition has handed over an analytical report to Ukrainian authorities, which was subsequently forwarded to Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.
Sybiha noted that 'these actions serve as a tactic to intimidate neighboring states.'
These events highlight an escalation in the regional military situation and a potential increase in threats to neighboring countries, especially Ukraine. The conscription in Belarus may be part of a broader strategy by Russia and its allies, raising concern within the international community. Monitoring Minsk’s next steps will be crucial for forecasting the conflict’s trajectory and its impact on regional security.
