Bloomberg: Ukraine's Allies Delay Delivery of Air Defense Systems.
Several NATO member countries are not keeping their promises to speed up the delivery of air defense systems and other military equipment to ensure protection against Russian aggression. Bloomberg reports this, citing sources familiar with the situation.
According to the sources, several NATO alliance member countries have not yet met their commitments confirmed at last month's summit in Washington. This particularly concerns promises to send at least five additional long-range systems.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has again called on allies to provide urgent assistance as Ukrainian forces made an unexpected advance into Russian territory this month. Zelensky emphasized that deliveries need to be expedited, especially addressing the US, the UK, and France.
At the July NATO summit, the US, Germany, and Romania promised to send one Patriot system each, while a fourth is to be assembled from components of several countries. Italy committed to providing the SAMP-T surface-to-air missile system.
According to sources, many NATO promises will likely not be fulfilled until autumn, when it is expected that Russia will intensify its attacks on Ukraine's critical infrastructure.
Zelensky is also insisting that the US and some European allies lift restrictions on the use of long-range weapons, citing that Ukraine's military advance in Russia's Kursk region demonstrated the futility of Kremlin threats of retaliation.
