Bolton explains Trump's rhetoric about Ukraine and Putin.

Former U.S. National Security Advisor John Bolton believes that the threats of sanctions from U.S. President Donald Trump against Russia are empty. He claims that Trump is attempting to show his 'balancing' in relation to Ukraine and Russia. However, Bolton emphasizes that both Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin understand that such threats have no impact.
Bolton analyzed Trump's threats and noted that the volume of Russian imports to the U.S. in 2024 was barely less than 3 billion dollars, which is a very insignificant amount compared to other countries. He also pointed out that imports from Russia decreased by 90% after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Bolton asserts that tariffs therefore make no sense.
Regarding new potential sanctions, Bolton stated that Russia has already found ways to circumvent restrictions, especially financial ones. He concluded that Putin understands well that these threats are empty. It is worth mentioning that Trump ordered the development of a plan for the rapid lifting of energy sanctions against Russia.
