British intelligence analyzed the state of medicine in the Russian army.
The British Ministry of Defense reported that the Russian army is facing problems in medical assistance at all levels. In Novosibirsk, dozens of wounded Russian soldiers caused unrest due to unacceptable medical care. They complained about the harsh treatment by their commander and refused to return to the front line without proper medical assistance. As a result, they damaged the barracks by breaking windows, and 10 people left the territory of the complex.
«The lack of armored vehicles and the constant threat of drones lead to significant delays in the evacuation of wounded Russian soldiers. This almost certainly increases the likelihood of more serious injuries and higher mortality rates among those eventually evacuated through the medical system», – noted the British Ministry of Defense.
According to the Ukrainian General Staff, since February 2022, Russia has lost over 700,000 people, of which about 500,000 Russian servicemen have been injured. The British Ministry of Defense states that this level of losses puts pressure on the Russian military medical system, causing logistical problems and a shortage of medical personnel. These issues are likely to persist for at least the next three months.
The invasion of Russia into Ukraine has negatively affected medicine in the Russian Federation. Civilian Russians have already felt the consequences. The deterioration of the level of medicine became evident after the beginning of the invasion. For example, with diabetes and atherosclerosis, the vessels of the lower limbs can become so contaminated that gangrene develops. In the USA, 280-300 amputations are performed annually per 1 million inhabitants, in Europe - 250, in Japan - 210. In Russia, however, 500 amputations are performed annually per million people. This is twice as much as in the civilized world. Also, Russians have twice as many leg amputations than countries with developed medicine.
