New UK-Made Missile for Ukraine: Inside the Brakestop Project.
New Weapon System for Ukraine
According to Espreso.tv: British firms are developing a fresh weapon system to aid Ukraine under the Brakestop initiative, which aims to deliver new missiles to the front lines within a year. Launched in late 2024, the project involves three companies: MBDA, MGI Engineering, and Rotron Aerospace.
The new ground-based systems will have a range exceeding 500 km and carry a warhead weighing at least 225 kg. Each missile is expected to cost around £400,000 without the warhead—significantly less than the Storm Shadow missile, which carries a price tag of roughly $1 million. After receiving an order, each company is prepared to produce at least 40 units per month within 3-4 months.
Operational Independence and Support for Ukraine
A key requirement from the UK government is that the new missiles achieve full operational independence, meaning no American components will be used. This initiative is part of a recently announced £752 million aid package for Ukraine, unveiled on June 18 at the 'Ramstein' meeting. Through these efforts, Britain continues to back Ukraine amid the ongoing armed conflict, offering cutting-edge technology and resources.
“The development of a new weapon system under the Brakestop project highlights the UK’s growing role in military support for Ukraine.”
This could strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities and enable a more effective response to modern threats. The £752 million aid package underscores the sustained backing from Western allies, a crucial factor in the current conflict.
