Workers on Wanted Lists Now Eligible for Only 40 Days of Military Deferment.
Deferment Policies for Ukrainian Enterprises
According to Novyny.live: Employees at enterprises deemed critical to national interests can qualify for exemptions from military conscription. In Ukraine, companies within the defense-industrial sector are permitted to reserve workers who are currently listed as wanted by authorities—but for a maximum of just 40 days. This deferment offers a legal pathway to avoid mobilization during a special wartime period, though it comes with strict limitations.
Only organizations officially classified as critically important are eligible to utilize this reservation system. This restriction means many businesses cannot take advantage of the option. For individuals on wanted lists, the deferment cannot exceed 40 days. As Yuriy Ayvazyan explained,
“The 40-day period is granted solely to allow time for resolving the wanted person’s legal status.”Consequently, if a person remains on the wanted list after that period, their deferment will not be extended.
Why Compliance with the Rules Matters
Economy Minister Oleksiy Sobolev stressed the critical need to follow all mandatory conditions for employee deferment in Ukraine. This issue has gained urgency amid ongoing military operations and the necessity to sustain key enterprises that perform vital roles in the national economy. Proper implementation of deferment mechanisms can help maintain stability in these sectors despite the challenges the country currently faces.
The reservation of workers at critically important enterprises reflects the imperative to preserve a skilled workforce during armed conflict. The defense-industrial complex is a cornerstone of national security, making it essential to keep it operational—especially when many employees face the risk of being mobilized. Refining and strictly enforcing deferment rules can positively influence Ukraine’s economic resilience during these difficult times.
