Housing Programs Give Ukrainian Soldiers a Reason to Look Ahead, Says Budanov.
Military Housing Initiatives in Ukraine
According to Novyny.live: According to Kyrylo Budanov, head of the President's Office, housing programs for military personnel are becoming a key factor in helping them plan their futures and stay financially motivated. Speaking at the First Affordable Mortgage Forum, Budanov highlighted that demand for housing among service members far outstrips what the current system can provide, calling for increased funding to meet the need. The security and defense forces of Ukraine number over one million people, including hundreds of thousands of active soldiers and millions of Ukrainians who have lost their homes due to the war.
Budanov stated,
“The security and defense forces are over a million people… that’s hundreds of thousands of potential clients.”He described the housing situation as critical, noting that only 24,000 apartments have been delivered through existing programs—a figure he called 'good, but critically insufficient.'
Urgent Need for New Housing Construction
The demand to build millions of square meters of housing is becoming increasingly urgent. In his remarks, Budanov urged:
“Bring in funds and scale up… the more you attract, the more people will return to a normal life.”The eOselia program, planned for 2026, is struggling to meet its targets, underscoring the need for swift action and changes in how housing efforts are financed.
Ultimately, these housing initiatives do more than just encourage soldiers to remain in service—they help restore a sense of normalcy for countless Ukrainians. With housing losses so widespread due to the war, ensuring proper funding and support for these programs is essential for rebuilding social infrastructure and fostering long-term stability in the country.
Given the scale of housing destruction across Ukraine, military housing programs are now a critical component of social recovery. Boosting investment and expanding financing could dramatically improve the situation, leading to greater national stability and better living conditions for a large segment of the population.
