A scandal occurred in Poland due to the statements of Ukrainian activist and organizer of the Euromaidan in Warsaw, Natalia Panchenko. In her interview for a Ukrainian channel, she noted that inciting hatred between Ukrainians and Poles is dangerous, especially for Poland. According to her, this could lead to clashes and arson of shops and houses on the territory of the country.
The statement by the Ukrainian caused outrage among Poles. Leszek Miller, former Prime Minister of Poland, called to send Panchenko for interrogation by the Polish Internal Security Agency and then to deport her. He also noted that the Ukrainian should reveal information about preparations for terrorist acts in Poland and confess whether she has connections with individuals who aim to disrupt the elections in the country.
Panchenko claims that her words were distorted in the Polish media. She also speculates that Russian special services may be involved, as Russia seeks to turn allies against Ukraine to deny it assistance.
The activist emphasizes that she never claimed that Ukrainians intended to commit arson or carry out attacks. Therefore, she sees no need to justify herself for words she did not say.
The Ukrainian Embassy in Poland also drew attention to the spread of false information about potential violent actions of Ukrainians in Poland. They urged Polish friends not to use the Ukrainian theme to achieve their political goals.
Natalia Panchenko insists that Ukrainians will return home when transparent laws are enacted and the state is built on trust towards its citizens. She also noted that Ukraine has acknowledged its mistakes and taken steps to correct the situation caused by the suspension of consular services abroad and the acquisition of citizenship by other countries for Ukrainians who evaded military service.
