The passenger traffic at the border remains high: what is the trend after the holidays.
According to ТСН: The passenger traffic at the border of Ukraine during the New Year and Christmas holidays remained high, despite changes in entry and exit directions.
Border traffic dynamics
Andriy Demchenko, a spokesperson of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, noted on the air of the Day.LIVE program:
“Look, throughout the New Year and Christmas period, the dynamics of passenger traffic—well, dynamic is an understatement. Because there were peak loads, like on December 21, for example, 155 thousand border crossings, and on January 1, 32 thousand crossings by citizens. There was also a decrease in passenger traffic on December 25 during Christmas. However, overall, during the entire New Year and Christmas period, the passenger traffic was quite high. In recent days, it has ranged from 100 to 120 thousand citizens crossing the border per day,” he said.
Changes in passenger traffic
According to Demchenko, there was a decrease in passenger traffic on January 1, while on January 2, it rose to 85 thousand, and on January 3, it reached 120 thousand border crossings.
“But again, day by day, it differs regarding the direction of crossing the border, where Ukrainians cross more. Before Christmas, there were more entries into Ukraine, after Christmas, more exits from Ukraine,” the spokesperson explained.
Border trends
Demchenko also noted that recently, the number of people entering Ukraine has exceeded those crossing the border in the direction of exit.
“And again, the passenger traffic will remain high at least until the end of this week, because after that the children's holidays will end. Therefore, it is worth expecting that in the remaining days of this week, we will record more border crossings into Ukraine than exits,” he said.
Let us remind you that recently another attempt to illegally cross the border was discovered at the Ukrainian-Polish border in a truck heading abroad.
Given the high activity at the border during the holidays, monitoring compliance with crossing rules remains on the agenda for border guards. The situation at the borders still requires special attention, as the holiday season always leads to increased passenger traffic and unforeseen situations.
