Diabetes in Ukraine: 5 Daily Habits that Increase the Risk of Getting Sick.
According to ТСН: Diabetes is one of the most common diseases in the world. It is called the disease of civilization and a non-infectious epidemic of the 21st century. In Ukraine, diabetes ranks third in prevalence after cardiovascular diseases and oncology.
Some dietary habits can significantly increase the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
A study published in the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) showed that an unbalanced diet combined with a sedentary lifestyle is the main factors leading to the rise in cases of this disease.
Doctors highlight the following habits that may contribute to the development of diabetes:
skipping breakfast;
excessive consumption of refined carbohydrates and sugar;
late dinners;
low fiber content in the diet;
frequent consumption of sugary drinks.
Moreover, doctors emphasize the negative impact of late meals. In the evening, the body absorbs glucose worse, and consuming calorie-rich meals before bedtime increases the risk of metabolic disorders.
It should be noted that a lack of fiber in the diet is a serious problem. Dietary fibers help slow down the absorption of sugar and maintain stable glucose levels. The best sources of fiber are vegetables, whole grains, legumes, and fruits.
Main Symptoms of Diabetes:
thirst;
frequent urination;
increased appetite and constant hunger;
unexpected weight loss or, conversely, weight gain;
increased fatigue.
Types of Diabetes:
Type 1 diabetes - requires constant insulin therapy.
Type 2 diabetes - is not insulin-dependent.
Gestational diabetes - occurs only during pregnancy.
Interestingly, in the USA, ten patients with type 1 diabetes managed to completely stop using insulin thanks to a new stem cell therapy. This was made possible by an experimental drug called "zimislecel," developed by Vertex Pharmaceuticals.
Considering the growing prevalence of diabetes, it is important to focus on prevention. Adjusting dietary habits and increasing physical activity can significantly reduce risks. Information about new treatment methods also provides hope for improving the quality of life for diabetes patients.
