Flight attendants named the 8 rudest mistakes passengers make on airplanes.
According to ТСН: Etiquette rules are relevant both in everyday life and during flights. Poor adherence to etiquette can impact not only your comfort but also the comfort of other passengers. Flight attendant Aiden and etiquette expert Jenny Dreisen identified eight key moments to avoid during air travel.
Key etiquette tips on airplanes
Experts point out that touching flight attendants is a rude breach. If you need help, just address them verbally. The crew closely monitors passengers and can hear your request without physical contact.
Another common mistake is heading to the restroom immediately after boarding the plane. At this time, the crew is performing important procedures, and passengers leaving their seats can delay takeoff. There are far more comfortable conditions for this in the terminal.
It is also annoying when passengers' hands, legs, or feet protrude into the aisle. In a cramped cabin, this complicates the crew's work and creates inconveniences for others. It's also advisable to avoid rushing after landing: hurrying to the exit as soon as the plane stops is rude to your neighbors.
Aiden emphasizes that arguing with the crew and ignoring their requests is unacceptable. Flight attendants undergo extensive training and are skilled in handling emergencies, such as administering first aid or extinguishing fires.
Unacceptable actions during a flight
From an etiquette perspective, it is unacceptable to place feet on someone else's armrest or appear in the cabin barefoot. According to Dreisen, this not only looks unaesthetic but is also unhygienic. She advises always wearing shoes and socks.
Regarding reclining seat backs, this is permissible, but it should be done carefully and with consideration for the passenger behind. A short warning or checking the table for a laptop or drink will also be appropriate.
Recently, it became known that a Canadian family's Christmas trip ended in a legal dispute. Low-cost carrier Flair Airlines denied them boarding due to its own policy, which passengers were not informed about. The government regulator deemed this policy manipulative.
Etiquette during flights is not just about rules of politeness, but also a way to ensure the comfort of all passengers. Following simple tips can help avoid misunderstandings and create a pleasant atmosphere on the plane. Despite the challenges airlines face, it is crucial to adhere to proper etiquette to enhance the overall travel experience.
