Mysterious Doors in the Rock on the Coast of New Zealand: What the Researcher Discovered.
According to ТСН: A researcher from New Zealand discovered mysterious doors in the rock near Greymouth on the west coast of the South Island. It turned out that they lead to a tunnel.
The man shared photos of this object on the social network Reddit.
"For 40 years I wondered what was behind these doors. Finally stopped to explore,"
— reads the caption to the published photos. One of the pictures shows doors with a concrete frame, and next to them are two small windows overgrown with vegetation.
Description of the Tunnel
Another image shows a tunnel adorned with wooden beams and supports that hold up the walls and ceiling. The floor is covered with gray dust, and a large rusty pipe runs through the center, alongside which scattered fragments of abandoned equipment can be seen.
The last photo shows the end of the tunnel, which is bricked up. The walls have a simple white curved shape, covered in mildew, and there are remnants of a wooden foundation on the floor.
It is known that mining operations were previously conducted in this region of the island, likely remnants of which were discovered by the researcher.
Reddit Users' Hypotheses
Reddit users speculated that there might have been dynamite storage for blasting rock or bunkers for storing scrap metal.
On social media, people expressed admiration for the condition of the wooden beams in the tunnel.
"The arches are beautiful. I'm curious what kind of wood this is; I'd guess it's yew or something similar. Yew is resistant to rot, so it was even used to build ships, and in Myanmar, there's a bridge that's over 150 years old and looks brand new,"
— wrote one user. Another joked that one could settle here if internet were available.
This discovery has captured the attention of not only researchers but also a wide audience online. The open question of what else this rock conceals may spur new research and expeditions. Unknown aspects of the history of these areas related to mining may further intrigue archaeologists and historians eager to unveil all the secrets of the region.
