Voluntary Military Service for Men Over 60

According to Novyny.live: On February 17, Ukraine's Ministry of Defense announced a new voluntary program allowing men aged 60 and older who are deemed fit for duty to sign a one-year military contract. This initiative is entirely optional, meaning there is no conscription for men in this age bracket. This move comes as Ukraine continues to adapt its defense strategy in the face of ongoing conflict.

Those who sign such a contract will be eligible for a special monthly payment ranging from 26,624 to 33,280 Ukrainian hryvnias. This financial incentive is designed to encourage older individuals, whose experience can be valuable, to contribute to national security through military service.

Targeting Both Younger and Older Recruits

In a separate measure to attract younger volunteers, contract soldiers aged 18 to 24 are eligible for a special one-time payment of one million hryvnias. These dual programs highlight the state's efforts to bolster its armed forces by appealing to different generations, each offering distinct forms of service and support.

The Ministry of Defense's strategy appears to be a calculated approach to military staffing, leveraging the potential of various age groups. Enlisting older men may address specific security challenges by utilizing the wisdom and steadiness of veterans, while the substantial payment for youth aims to strengthen military ranks and provide economic support to a younger generation during a period of national hardship.
