Russia destroyed key CHP plants in Kyiv: why it is impossible to protect them from ballistics.
According to ТСН: As a result of a massive Russian attack on January 9, the large combined heat and power plants CHP-5 and CHP-6 in Kyiv were severely damaged, which provide more than half of the heat and electricity for the capital. The protective structures failed to secure them from ballistic missiles.
This was reported by Serhiy Nahorniak, a member of the committee on energy and housing and communal services, in an interview with 'KYIV24'.
'The protective structure can only shield a certain element at a thermal power plant or a hydroelectric power station, or at a 'Ukrenergo' substation from 'Shaheds' or cruise missiles, a small object that can be physically protected. But the thermal power plant itself cannot be protected in any way, as the missiles simultaneously approached both cruise and 'Shaheds', and ballistic ones, practically arriving in the city of Kyiv simultaneously,' he noted.
As of today, CHP-5 and CHP-6 have still not restored operations, and the situation remains extremely difficult, according to Nahorniak.
It should be noted that on the night of January 9, Kyiv suffered a massive drone and missile attack, leading to disruptions in electricity, water supply, and heating for some residents of the capital and the region.
Vitaliy Klitschko reported that nearly 6 thousand apartment buildings were left without heat and urged residents to consider temporarily leaving Kyiv.
Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko emphasized that during the nighttime attack, Russian troops deliberately targeted the district heating plants of Kyiv, using adverse weather conditions as a weapon.
As a result of these events, the city faced serious problems in the energy sector, with the residents of Kyiv finding themselves in difficult conditions without heating. Lviv, Odesa, and other regions share concerns about the energy situation in the capital, as the normalization of heating network operations hinges on the comfort of residents not only in Kyiv but throughout the country.
