Border Tensions Between Ukraine and Belarus Under Scrutiny

According to Espreso.tv: Andriy Demchenko, a spokesperson for Ukraine’s State Border Guard Service, stated that there is no evidence of Belarus reinforcing its military units along the Ukrainian border. However, he acknowledged Russia’s ongoing influence over Belarus’s military infrastructure. Demchenko noted,

“Fortunately, we do not see any buildup of strike forces or additional troops and equipment near our border.”

He further explained that the Belarusian military units stationed near Ukraine since 2022 have not grown in size.

“Their numbers are not increasing; they are simply rotated periodically,”
he said. This clarification comes amid heightened attention to regional security, as Belarus shares a long border with Ukraine and has been a key ally of Russia in the conflict.

Ongoing Border Monitoring

In May 2026, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported 'unusual activity' on Belarusian territory, citing intelligence that suggested Belarus was constructing military facilities near the Ukrainian border. This development underscores the need for continuous surveillance, even in the absence of a troop increase. The lack of a military buildup from Belarus may signal a degree of stabilization along the border, though Russia’s sway over Belarus’s defense infrastructure remains a persistent concern. Ukrainian authorities are maintaining close watch over the region, as any shift could have serious implications for national security.
