October 27 is celebrated as Ukrainian Language and Literature Day. On the eve of the holiday, flowers began to be brought to Iryna Farion's grave. Photos of the linguist's final resting place can be seen on the «Glavkom» website.
The case of Iryna Farion's murder:
On September 19, a court session regarding Iryna Farion's murder was held in Lviv. The defense requested to change the preventive measure for the suspect, but the court decided to keep him in custody until November 17 this year. Examinations are currently underway, with their conclusion expected in October-November 2024.
The Halytskyi District Court of Lviv extended the pre-trial investigation period until January 26, 2025.
The main suspect in the murder is 18-year-old Viacheslav Zinchenko. According to the police version, on the evening of July 19, 2024, he fired a shot from a firearm into Iryna Farion's head. Iryna Farion was hospitalized but died from the injuries sustained. Intentional murder may result in punishment of up to fifteen years of imprisonment.
Suspect Viacheslav Zinchenko has been in custody since the end of July. The lawyer claims that he is not related to the murder of Iryna Farion.
Refuting the evidence:
The suspect's defense claims that on the day of the murder, Viacheslav Zinchenko was in Lviv but was not at the crime scene, as the police claim. The lawyer refused to specify the suspect's exact location. Even after a statement about a threat to life from Farion's daughter on the part of the lawyer before the court session, the police did not register a proceeding on this fact.
