Denys Bigus has drawn a mobilization notice: the journalist is going to serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to inkorr.com: Well-known investigative journalist and founder of the Bihus.Info project Denys Bigus announced his mobilization into the Armed Forces of Ukraine after receiving a mobilization notice. Ironically commenting on this, he noted the offer he received from the Vinnytsia Territorial Recruitment Center and Social Support.
'The Vinnytsia TCC made me an offer that is hard to refuse. And although at this moment, as I record this, I am still a civilian, I think by the time you see this, I will no longer be... how it sounds on TikToks... a person in the status of a person,' Bigus stated.
The journalist admitted that he was expecting mobilization and perceived civilian life as a temporary pause. He noted that he never had a reservation from conscription. He previously served in a special patrol police unit during the invasion in 2022 but was later discharged.
Continuation of Bihus.Info's work
Denys Bigus emphasized that his project Bihus.Info will continue to operate even during his absence. The journalistic team intends to continue releasing new investigations and exposing corruption schemes.
Government measures for mobilization
According to Ukrainian legislation, mobilized citizens are allowed to proceed to combat zones only after appropriate military training. The mobile app 'Reserve+' will also have the option for online deferment applications for parents of children with disabilities.
Furthermore, those convicted of crimes may be mobilized under the law, which allows for early conditional release for service under a contract. Ukrainians over 60 years old can voluntarily sign contracts for service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine for auxiliary tasks.
Thus, Denys Bigus's mobilization and the continuation of his project's work demonstrate that journalistic activity remains important even in difficult conditions. The Bihus.Info team, continuing its mission, seeks to draw attention to significant issues and problems in society amid the war in Ukraine.
