Ukraine's Parliament Makes Third Attempt at Child Protection and Adult Content Legislation.
Draft Law No. 15294 on Child Safety
According to Espreso.tv: Ukrainian lawmakers have introduced a new legislative proposal, Draft Law No. 15294, aimed at increasing penalties for crimes against minors, particularly the production and distribution of child pornography. The bill has the backing of 45 members of parliament. According to Yaroslav Zheleznyak, after a failed vote on May 28 regarding the decriminalization of adult content—which only garnered 207 votes—consultations were held with various parliamentary factions and groups.
Draft Law No. 15294 not only toughens consequences for offenses against children but also incorporates provisions to decriminalize adult content. Zheleznyak noted,
“This will be the third attempt to legislatively resolve the issue, but I hope this time it will be final and successful.”
Verkhovna Rada's Agenda
Additionally, the Verkhovna Rada plans to take up the issue of taxing digital platforms on Tuesday. This reflects ongoing efforts in Ukraine to address pressing social concerns through legislative action.
The adoption of Draft Law No. 15294 could significantly strengthen child protection in Ukraine, as tougher penalties for crimes against minors represent a crucial step in combating this problem. The continued debate over decriminalizing adult content highlights the parliament's active work to refine legislation in this area. Addressing taxation for electronic platforms also marks an important phase in regulating emerging technologies and their societal impact.
