Serviceman Olga from the Volyn border detachment returned from the combat zone. After six months in Kharkiv, she met her children in Lutsk. The family reunion was recorded on video and published by the Western Regional Directorate of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.

In the summer of 2024, Olga went to Kharkiv Oblast with the rapid response command of the Volyn border detachment to carry out combat missions. This was her third and longest rotation in the east.

Together with her fellow cooks, Olga prepared food for the unit, including during shelling and under the target of Russian drones.

«We always tried to make something tasty, bake sweets, so that the guys could enjoy a little. This rotation coincided with the Christmas and New Year holidays, so we also prepared a traditional dinner for Holy Evening to feel the festive spirit and create a part of family warmth far from our loved ones,» Olga said.

She also said that she missed her children very much and waited a long Time for this meeting. Her children expressed their love and that they really wanted to hug their mother when she returned.

Return from captivity

On October 18, 95 Ukrainian defenders returned who had been in Russian captivity. Among them were two police officers - Maksym Dudnik and Yegor Denisov. This was reported by the National Police of Ukraine. They had been held captive for over two years.

«Both guys were held in Olenivka Colony, they experienced horrible Russian captivity... The guys had been in captivity for over two years, but finally returned home,» the National Police stated.

The State Border Guard Service also told the story of a serviceman who donated all the funds collected for his treatment to pay for the treatment of his comrade. Serhiy Hruzenskyi sustained serious injuries leading to the amputation of both legs during combat in Kostiantynivka in 2023. In a Kyiv hospital, he met Oleksandr, who also experienced amputation. Their friendship became a support during the toughest times.
