Donald Trump and the End of the War in Ukraine.
Trump and Putin: Will There Be Negotiations?
Donald Trump became the 47th president of the United States on January 20. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky congratulated Trump on his inauguration and urged joint action to ensure the success of democracy. He emphasized that it is important to strengthen US leadership to achieve peace in Ukraine.
Although Putin noted that he is open to 'dialogue' with the new US administration, his actions suggest a reluctance for honest diplomacy. Kyiv is confident that the US will remain a reliable partner.
After the inauguration, Trump stated that Putin is 'destroying' Russia by refusing the ceasefire agreement in Ukraine. He also indicated that he might speak with Putin soon. This will be a sharp change in approach, as the previous president Joe Biden did not communicate with Putin for three years. Trump believes that direct interaction with Putin is necessary to find a solution that will end the war.
Putin stated that he is ready to discuss a peaceful resolution of the Ukrainian conflict but will not agree to compromises and changes to his demands. Official Kyiv warned Trump's team that forcing Ukraine to negotiate with Russia before the Ukrainian army takes the initiative on the battlefield will have catastrophic consequences.
At the same Time, Donald Trump suspended aid to any other countries and organizations. This may negatively affect assistance to Ukraine in preserving and restoring damaged infrastructure. Many experts are urging Trump to continue supporting Ukraine to stop Russian aggression and achieve peace.
