Tax Service Inspections Target Mountain Resorts

According to Novyny.live: Inspections by Ukraine's State Tax Service at popular ski resorts have uncovered an illegal hotel operating in Bukovel, along with numerous other violations amounting to 3.2 million hryvnias. The crackdown focused on major tourist destinations like Bukovel and Yaremche, prompted by a significant surge in revenue reported in recent months. These resorts are key winter tourism hubs for Ukraine.

Findings and Scale of Violations

Revenue at these resorts grew by 30% for November-December 2024 compared to the same period the previous year. In 2025, the tax service conducted 214 inspections, identifying 472 violations totaling 3.4 million hryvnias. Penalties imposed in January 2026 alone reached 3.2 million hryvnias, highlighting the intensity of the enforcement campaign.

The violations discovered included:

  • 26 undeclared employees;
  • 5 instances of unregistered business activity;
  • financial transactions conducted without using mandatory cash registers or software-based fiscal devices;
  • illegal circulation of 184 nicotine-containing liquids for electronic cigarettes.

These results underscore the tax authority's efforts to combat illegal operations in tourist areas, which can undermine legitimate businesses and the broader economy. While the revenue growth points to rising interest in ski tourism, maintaining strict legal compliance remains crucial to ensure a level playing field for all market participants.
