Drivers face double charges for parking at Heathrow: how to avoid mistakes.
According to The Sun: Drivers at the UK's largest airport are receiving warnings about potential errors in parking fines collection. Some of them are subjected to double charges.
For instance, driver Chris Tiley paid £6 for dropping off a passenger at Terminal 3 of Heathrow Airport earlier this year, but within a few minutes received a second fine simply for re-entering the same stretch of road, even though he did not stop a second time.
Getty - ContributorThe Consumer Protection Bureau (CPB) intervened in this case, pointing out flaws in the airport's automated fines collection system.
“This is not just a problem for one driver,” said Yusuf Jaghru, executive director of CPB.
“The fact that APCOA has agreed to refund the charge indicates a more serious issue in airport operations. Consumers are penalized for systemic errors, and this is not adherence to rules, it is a trap.”
“If a driver can be fined simply for passing by a camera, the term 'drop-off zone' is misleading,” Jaghru added.
“We will not hesitate to escalate this issue to regulators if necessary.”

“If the contest had been submitted, the charge would have been canceled in accordance with our policy. However, the client opted not to contact us directly, and the contest came through the CPB.”
How to spot if you have fallen victim to a false fine
Experts advise checking your bank accounts for double charges.
Consumer rights expert Martin James explained: “Unfortunately, businesses can and will mistakenly charge funds, and millions are lost each year as we simply do not notice.”
“So take just 10 minutes a month to review your bank statements and ask your bank to refund any unauthorized payments.”
“It is that simple.”
