DTEK Launches Coalition to Rebuild Ukraine's Power Grid, Starting with Poltava Wind Farm.
Coalition Formed to Rebuild Ukraine's Energy System
According to TSN.ua: During an address at Davos, DTEK CEO Maxim Timchenko announced the launch of a new coalition aimed at the rapid restoration of Ukraine's power grid. He called on global leaders to help Ukraine withstand Russian attacks, which have pushed the country's energy system 'to the brink of collapse.' The coalition's inaugural project will be the construction of the 650 MW Poltava Wind Power Plant (WPP). This initiative is a critical response to the widespread damage inflicted on Ukraine's energy infrastructure since the full-scale invasion began.
Restoration Efforts Underway
Timchenko noted that the wind farm project had been in development for three years and is part of broader energy system recovery efforts.
“Our position is that Ukraine's recovery should begin with new projects, like those we and other investors have been implementing since 2022,” he emphasized. The coalition initiative was first announced in late December 2022, underscoring DTEK's serious commitment to this area. Engaging international partners and investors is seen as a key factor in ensuring the stability and development of Ukraine's energy sector amid ongoing challenges.
This step is vital for rebuilding the country's energy infrastructure, which has sustained significant damage from military actions. The formation of this coalition demonstrates the active efforts of Ukrainian companies to secure international support for infrastructure recovery. The first project, the Poltava Wind Power Plant, has the potential to become a significant step toward ensuring Ukraine's energy independence. The successful implementation of such initiatives could positively impact economic recovery and the stability of the nation's energy sector.
