Massive Overnight Assault on Ukraine: 90 Drones and Missiles Target Odesa Region.
July 18 Attack on Ukraine
According to UATV: On July 18, the Russian military launched a large-scale attack on Ukraine, employing a mix of missiles and drones. The primary focus of the assault was the Odesa region. The weaponry used in this attack included:
- two Iskander-M ballistic missiles
- two Oniks anti-ship missiles
- three Kh-59/69 guided air-launched missiles
From airspace over Crimea, 90 attack drones were launched, including Shahed, Gerbera, and Italmas models. As of 9:00 AM, preliminary reports indicate that air defense systems shot down one Kh-59/69 guided missile and 69 enemy drones. Additionally, 19 drones and several missiles struck 19 separate locations, while debris from intercepted projectiles fell across five other sites.
Defense Forces Involved
The response to the attack involved multiple branches of Ukraine's defense forces:
- aviation units
- surface-to-air missile troops
- electronic warfare (EW) teams
- mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defense Forces
Drone launch points included Bryansk, Oryol, Millerovo, Prymorsko-Akhtarsk, occupied Donetsk, and Hvardiiske. It is also worth noting that on July 17, Russian forces carried out a missile strike on the Shevchenkivskyi district of Kharkiv.
This latest escalation highlights the ongoing intensity of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, particularly with the use of advanced military technologies like ballistic missiles and drones. Recent data shows that Ukrainian forces are continuously improving their air defense capabilities, enabling them to respond effectively to threats, though the risk of aerial attacks remains high. The events in the Odesa region could significantly impact both local conditions and the broader security situation across Ukraine.
