Two disasters in a few hours: a plane crash in South Korea, a fire in Canada.
A horrific plane crash occurred at Muan airport in South Korea
A horrific plane crash occurred at Muan International Airport in South Korea. A South Korean Jeju Air plane flying from Bangkok collided with a fence during landing.
According to Yonhap News Agency, there were 181 people on board the plane, including 175 passengers and 6 crew members. The death toll rose overnight from 23 to 85. According to the latest data, only two passengers were rescued. A total of 173 South Korean citizens and 2 Thai citizens died. Fortunately, there were no citizens of Ukraine on board the plane.
According to a preliminary version, the cause of the accident could be a malfunction of the landing gear. The crew was unable to successfully land the plane on the first attempt and made an emergency landing. The plane could not reduce its speed and collided with a fence.
Local media report a possible bird strike that caused the malfunction of the landing gear. One passenger testified that a bird got stuck in the wing of the plane.
Currently, a rescue operation is ongoing at Muan airport, with all necessary services working at the scene of the incident, and the circumstances of the accident are being investigated by the relevant authorities.
Emergency landing of an Air Canada plane at Halifax airport
There is also information about a similar incident in Canada, where an Air Canada plane made an emergency landing at Halifax airport. The plane's wing collided with the runway, resulting in a fire.
Fortunately, all passengers, estimated at around 80, and crew members were quickly evacuated. One passenger testified that a malfunction of the landing gear may have been the cause of the incident - the plane landed at an angle, after which there was a loud bang and the wing began to slide along the runway.
Three serious aviation incidents in recent days
These two tragedies have been the third serious aviation incidents in recent days. Recall that on December 25, a Embraer-190 plane crashed in Kazakhstan, killing 40 people, with 32 rescued. Among the possible causes of the crash in Kazakhstan, one of the theories involves a potential shot from Russian air defense.
