US Sanctions Against Russia: Why EU Pressure Is Ineffective Without Them.
Economist Serhiy Fursa spoke about the importance of United States sanctions in exerting pressure on Russia. According to him, without America's involvement, European Union sanctions can provide little help.
In an interview with Day.LIVE, he emphasized that sanctions are ineffective if the US does not fully engage. He stated that Ukrainian sanctions have symbolic significance, but real pressure is only felt when America is involved.
'If the EU imposes sanctions against a Russian vessel, there is about a 50% chance it will cease operations. If sanctions are supported by the EU, Britain, and the US — the likelihood of stopping such a vessel's activities increases to over 90%,'— explained the economist.
He also noted that in the past six months, President Trump has not imposed any new sanctions against Russia.
'Trump is avoiding the lifting of sanctions, which slows down international pressure,'— believes Fursa.
Additionally, Ukraine recently intensified sanctions against Russian energy companies, and Volodymyr Zelensky imposed sanctions against the captains of Russia's 'shadow fleet.'
Ukrainian economist Serhiy Fursa explained that European Union sanctions have a greater impact when the US participates, and he emphasized that the lack of new sanctions from President Trump is restraining international pressure on Russia. In particular, the economist reminded about the new sanctions from Ukraine against Russian companies, which were first introduced under the leadership of Volodymyr Zelensky.
