Energy crisis awaits Ukraine

Oleksandr Kharchenko, director of the Energy Research Center, spoke about the situation in Ukraine's energy sector and predicted when mini-nuclear plants might appear.

According to Kharchenko, the state of energy in Ukraine today is not catastrophic. He believes that this demonstrates effective resistance to attacks and attempts to develop the energy sector. Repairs to energy facilities are constantly underway, after which consumers receive full energy supply.

According to Kharchenko, Ukraine needs to focus on the development of hydropower, as it is the backbone of the energy system. He expressed a positive opinion about the work of 'Ukrhydroenergo' and the hope that it will continue successfully.

Regarding mini-nuclear plants, Kharchenko noted that it is still a research technology, and there is no working prototype. However, according to him, the first mini-nuclear plants may appear in 7-8 years when the technologies are refined and project costs become clearer.

Thus, we hope that in about 12-15 years, mini-nuclear plants will become a reality in Ukraine and will be an important technology for the country.

Ukraine and the EU have agreed to increase electricity imports in the winter.
