State of Water Resources in Ukraine

According to inkorr.com: This summer, the situation with water resources in Ukraine did not improve significantly, despite the less hot weather and sufficient rainfall. This was reported by the vice president of the 'Ukrvodokanalgeologiya' association, Andriy Nikitin. He noted that the quality of water in rivers remained at the level of previous years.

«I do not see a significant reduction in turbidity, color, and oxidation levels. This is caused not by temperature, but by untreated wastewater containing a lot of phosphorus – a real fertilizer for greenery in rivers,» said Nikitin.

The expert also emphasized that the reason for the blooming of water bodies is not temperature, but a lack of investment in wastewater treatment systems for water utilities. This may lead to further deterioration of the river condition. Additionally, the serious problem remains the consequences of the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Station, which has already caused water shortages in many villages.

Andriy Nikitin expressed concern about the critical situation with water supply in occupied Donbas. He stressed that the water supply system in this area is in an extremely difficult state, and the likelihood of a complete collapse is almost non-existent.

The expert's comments indicate that the situation with water resources in Ukraine remains a serious concern, especially in the ATO zone and occupied Donbas. Problems with water quality and supply require urgent measures to prevent further escalation of the situation.

The state of water resources in Ukraine continues to be challenging, and the situation requires significant attention from the government. Investment in wastewater treatment systems has become critically important for improving water quality in rivers and ensuring water supply in regions where this is currently the most pressing issue.
