18 Injured, Including Police Officers, in Damascus Explosions During Macron's Visit.
Explosions Rock Syria During French President’s Visit
According to Espreso.tv: At least 18 people were wounded, four of them police officers, in a series of blasts that struck a crowded area near Syria’s Ministry of Tourism and a hotel where French President Emmanuel Macron was staying during his visit. According to Syria’s Interior Ministry, the explosions occurred 'outside the security zone designated for the French president’s residence and posed no direct threat.'
Preliminary investigations indicate that two improvised explosive devices were used: one hidden inside a vehicle and another placed in a garbage container. Despite the blasts, Macron did not hear them and is continuing his visit to Syria as planned.
These events highlight the volatile security environment in the region and raise concerns about the safety of high-profile international visits. The NATO summit is scheduled to begin on July 8 in Ankara, and such incidents could shape discussions on counterterrorism and security protocols for international gatherings.
Heightened Regional Tensions
The attacks during the French president’s visit underscore rising violence in the area, which could have serious implications not only for French delegations but for other international missions as well. With the NATO summit approaching, these developments may influence debates on stability in the Middle East and measures to protect diplomatic events.
