Prices for borscht set will fall in September: when vegetables will get cheaper.
What will happen to vegetable and fruit prices in Ukraine
According to Denys Marchuk, vegetable prices for preparing borscht will gradually start to decrease at the end of summer this year.
However, he noted that this year's fruit harvest was affected by spring frosts.
'This season we will have a vegetable increase of about 800 thousand tons. These are additional opportunities that will influence the price decrease. Now we see that when there are more offers from domestic producers in the open ground — the price is gradually going down. This applies to the borscht set.'
According to him, it is expected that the peak of price decrease for vegetables will occur at the end of August and the beginning of September.
'We expect the peak decrease at the end of August — at the beginning of September when there will be a mass collection of vegetable crops. As for fruit trees and their harvest, the situation is like with rapeseed, which suffered due to frosts. The same situation applies to pears and apples. The stone fruits that we saw this season were few and expensive. One should not expect prices like those of two years ago or last year. As the supply increases, the price may drop slightly, but not significantly.'
He also noted that compared to previous years, fruit prices may be different. Earlier studies indicated an increase in prices for cucumbers and feed corn in Ukraine. After the spring frosts, the fruit harvest in Ukraine suffered, which may lead to differences in prices for these products. However, according to forecasts, prices for vegetables, particularly for the borscht set, will gradually decrease at the end of summer due to increased supply from domestic producers.
