When Ukraine Could Begin Its First Weapons Exports.
Ukraine's Defense Industry Aims for Foreign Sales
According to Novyny.live: Ihor Fedyrko, Executive Director of the Ukrainian League of Defense Enterprises, has provided an update on the country's arms production and export status, while also highlighting issues related to Western military doctrines. He stated that Ukraine now manufactures up to 60% of the weapons and equipment used by all its Security Forces. The remaining 40% is imported, including key items such as:
- Aircraft
- Missiles
- Aerial bombs
- 155mm caliber artillery
- Anti-aircraft missile systems (AAMS)
The export of Ukrainian-made weapons could be authorized by the end of 2025. Initial steps toward exports are planned for late February 2025, with the first potential shipments occurring in late summer or autumn of that year. Fedyrko noted that despite hopes for opening exports, the process is being delayed by personnel changes in the Ministry of Defense and the National Security and Defense Council, which have prevented the approval of relevant commission members.

He also indicated that expectations for a rapid launch of exports have diminished significantly due to these administrative hurdles and management changes.
Therefore, the prospects for Ukrainian arms exports depend not only on product readiness but also on the state's ability to respond promptly to challenges and adapt to international standards. This process is crucial, as successful exports could become a significant driver for Ukraine's economic growth and enhance its standing on the global stage. The situation requires close monitoring, as further management changes could impact the timeline for the planned shipments.
