Former Defense Ministry Official Embezzled 1 Billion UAH for Food Purchases for the Armed Forces.
The Security Service of Ukraine has reported the uncovering of embezzlement by a former official of the Ministry of Defense. It turned out that one billion hryvnias, intended for food purchases for the Armed Forces, were spent without proper control efforts.
Details of the Scandalous Story
According to the case materials, the former official entered into a contract with a private company at an inflated amount, leading to losses of 41%. Experts noted that the funds were misused, violating military standards.
'The Ministry of Defense official did not perform the necessary verification of the contract amount and did not consult with specialists from the military department. This resulted in significant losses for the budget,' the SBU reported.
Prospect of Punishment
Currently, the former official of the Ministry of Defense is facing trial for embezzlement. He faces up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property. The SBU emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and all involved parties will be held accountable.
