The energy system of Ukraine is in critical condition

According to TSN.ua: As of January 14, 2023, the situation in the energy system of Ukraine remains complicated due to Russian strikes and cold weather. The most difficult situation is observed in Kyiv and the Kyiv region, where emergency recovery operations are ongoing. On the night of January 13, the enemy launched a massive strike on energy facilities, causing significant damage.

According to the acting Minister of Energy of Ukraine Artem Nekrasov, 74 thousand consumers in Dnipropetrovsk region have been left without electricity, while more than 40 thousand subscribers remain without power supply. In addition, 12 settlements are de-energized in Chernihiv and Kyiv regions. In several regions, emergency outages are being applied due to equipment overload in conditions of high consumption during the frosts.

Critical state of the capital's energy system

The state of the capital's energy system is defined as critical. Artem Nekrasov noted that a return to the forecasted schedules will occur after the situation in the energy system stabilizes. Currently, energy services are working to restore electricity supply and eliminate the consequences of recent attacks.

“This situation underscores the vulnerability of Ukraine's energy infrastructure, especially in the context of the ongoing war.”

Artem Nekrasov

Emergency outages and the critical state of the energy system can have serious consequences for the daily lives of the population, as well as for the economy of the country. Restoring electricity supply in the coming days will be an important priority for the government and energy companies, as the approaching cold increases the demand for electricity, which places an additional burden on already overloaded systems.
