EU Tightens Sanctions on Russia: Kallas Sets Condition for Escalating Pressure on Moscow.
Kaja Kalls Calls for Stronger Sanctions Against Russia
According to UATV: Kaja Kallas, the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, is urging an expansion of sanctions on Russia in response to its strikes on Ukraine. She stresses that financial support is crucial to strengthening Ukraine's defenses. Following recent attacks on Kyiv, Kallas emphasized the need to maintain pressure on Moscow.
On July 2, Russian forces launched an assault on the Ukrainian capital, killing 18 people and wounding 85, including two children. More than 30 locations in Kyiv were damaged or destroyed, and six people remain missing. In this context, Kallas stated:
'The more Moscow strikes civilians, the more sanctions there should be.' Kaja Kallas
The European Union has already begun disbursing 6 billion euros as part of a 90-billion-euro loan aimed at bolstering Ukraine's defense. 'This is only possible through sustained military support for Ukraine and increased pressure on Moscow,' Kallas added. She further emphasized:
'We will continue to raise the cost of war until Russia understands it cannot win.' Kaja Kallas
These statements reflect the EU's determination to stand by Ukraine during this difficult time.
Growing International Concern
Kallas's remarks highlight mounting global anxiety over security in Ukraine and the need for decisive action against Russian aggression. Expanding sanctions could serve as a key tool to pressure Moscow while supporting the Ukrainian state. At the same time, EU financial aid underscores Europe's willingness to back Ukraine not only militarily but also economically—a critical factor for regional stability.
