EU and US Deny Embassy Withdrawal from Kyiv: What’s Really Happening.
Ukraine’s Security Crisis
According to Espreso.tv: Ukraine’s ongoing security crisis continues to draw international concern. Speaking at an informal gathering of European Union foreign ministers held in Cyprus, Kaja Kallas, the EU’s top diplomat, highlighted the alarming situation the country faces due to the protracted armed conflict.
Against this tense backdrop, most diplomatic missions have remained in Kyiv. All but one embassy are still operating in Ukraine’s capital. The U.S. Embassy in Ukraine, for instance, continues its normal operations, though its officials have issued a warning:
“We reiterate that U.S. citizens should not travel to Ukraine for any reason because of the armed conflict.” - U.S. Embassy in Ukraine
Tensions escalated further after a phone call on May 25 between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Senator Marco Rubio. During the conversation, Lavrov threatened new strikes on targets in Kyiv, raising alarm among both Ukrainian and international experts.
For their part, Ukrainian diplomats are working to clarify the situation. Heorhii Tykhyi, a Ukrainian diplomatic representative, assured that reports of the U.S. Embassy leaving Ukraine are false. Meanwhile, Dmytro Lytvyn suggested that the information may have referred to circumstances preceding a potential strike on Sunday night.
Diplomatic Support for Ukraine
European Union diplomats have also confirmed their commitment to staying in Kyiv. Katarína Mathernová stated that their work in Ukraine’s capital will continue, despite the existing threats. As a result, the international community is closely monitoring developments in Ukraine, striving to maintain diplomatic ties amid growing tensions.
This situation underscores the importance of international support for Ukraine and the willingness of diplomatic missions to operate under dangerous conditions. The continued presence of embassies in Ukraine reflects their dedication and solidarity during this difficult period. However, threats from Russia—particularly the promise of new strikes on Kyiv—highlight the need for vigilance and stability in the region.
