The European Union called on the countries participating in the BRICS summit in Russia to address President Vladimir Putin with a call to end the war against Ukraine.
"We believe that all participants of the summit in Kazan will use this event to once again call on Putin to immediately stop the war against the Ukrainian people," said EU foreign policy spokesman Peter Stano, reports Voice of America.
He condemned "Russia's abuse" of its chairmanship in the BRICS group, recalling the existence of an ICC warrant for the arrest of the Russian president.
At the same time, the EU spokesman added that the EU supports the participation of UN Secretary-General António Guterres in the summit: "We hope that he will reinforce the call to Russia and Putin to fully and unconditionally end the brutal aggression against the Ukrainian people."
