EU Arrives Late to Ukraine Peace Talks, Says European Parliament Member.
Concerns Over EU Involvement in Peace Negotiations
According to UATV: Petras Auštrevičius, a Lithuanian member of the European Parliament, has expressed concern about the European Union's involvement in Ukraine peace negotiations, stating the bloc has arrived late to the process. He stressed the necessity of active EU participation in resolving the conflict but pointed out that Russia has rejected all EU proposals for a peaceful settlement.
Auštrevičius further emphasized that the situation demands the European Union's presence at the negotiating table. He stated he sees no value in bilateral contacts between major EU states and Moscow. The politician added that Russia fears the European Union, which underscores the importance of a united effort in supporting Ukraine. The EU's delayed engagement comes as diplomatic efforts to end the war face significant hurdles.
The Imperative for Supporting Ukraine
Auštrevičius highlighted the need for trust, unity, and a clear policy of supporting Ukraine from the EU, considering these elements critical for achieving a peaceful resolution. The EU's foreign policy, which involves coordinating the positions of its 27 member states, is significantly shaped by its High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell.
"Auštrevičius's remarks underscore the timeliness and importance of the European Union's role in resolving the conflict in Ukraine, especially in the context of Russia's ongoing aggression."

As peace negotiations grow increasingly complex, an active EU stance could prove decisive for supporting regional stability and rebuilding trust between the parties. The EU's involvement in the talks could also strengthen its position on the international stage, given that security and peace in Ukraine are central to broader European security policy.
