The Ministry of Energy reported that the European Commission allocates 3 million euros for the work of IAEA monitoring missions at Ukraine's nuclear power plants. These funds may be used for missions at substations that are critical for ensuring the operation of nuclear power plants. These funds are allocated within the framework of the European Instrument for International Cooperation in the field of nuclear safety.
Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson noted: "Russian attacks on substations critical for the operation of Ukraine's nuclear power plants create serious threats. We support the work of IAEA missions at such substations and allocate 3 million euros to ensure relevant needs." She also assured that the EU will continue to support the Ukrainian energy sector in preparation for the upcoming winter.
Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko expressed hope for increasing the maximum capacity of electricity imports from European Union countries. He also emphasized the importance of air defense systems as protection for energy facilities. In conclusion, he called on European ministers to discuss strengthening sanctions against the aggressor, which would force Russia to stop attacks on civilian energy infrastructure.
