European Commission Confirms Russian Attacks on Satellites, Details EU Defense Measures.
Russia's Attempts to Jam European Satellite Signals
According to UATV: The European Commission has officially acknowledged its awareness of Russian attempts to intercept and disrupt signals from European satellites. During a briefing on February 4, Commission spokesperson Thomas Reynier stated that Russia has been conducting operations against European space assets for many years, if not decades. He emphasized that the EU's Galileo satellite navigation system is equipped with tools designed to counter these specific threats.
Protective Measures for Space Assets
Reynier outlined the concrete actions being taken to protect Europe's space infrastructure from potential attacks.
"Firstly, we have Galileo, which already exists and is capable of detecting and preventing such attacks,"he noted. This confirms that Europe possesses the technology to identify threats and secure its satellite signals.
Furthermore, the Commission spokesperson revealed details about a new European space shield. This defensive system will be deployed in collaboration with EU member states to protect satellites and other orbital assets. The project is part of broader European defense initiatives, following recent progress on four flagship programs in this sector. These developments highlight Europe's active efforts to bolster its space security in the face of escalating threats from Russia. The Galileo system and the planned space shield are seen as critical components for ensuring both national and regional security, which in turn impacts global stability in the space domain.
These statements underscore the growing importance of securing space-based technologies. As state-level threats become more prevalent, Europe's push to integrate defensive capabilities among its members reflects a strategic shift towards greater resilience in this critical arena.
