Economist Warns: Europe Unprepared for Major Conflict Even a Decade from Now.
Is Europe Prepared for War?
According to Novyny.live: In a recent interview, economist Oleksiy Kushch expressed a stark assessment, stating that Europe will remain unprepared for a large-scale war even if it ramps up weapons production. He believes this situation will not change in either five or ten years. Kushch was quoted as saying:
“Europe was not ready before, is not ready now, and will not be ready in either 5 or 10 years.”
These security concerns are intensifying against the backdrop of Russia's expanding military capabilities. Notably, Russia is actively developing a nuclear base located a mere 270 km (about 168 miles) from the Swedish border. This development has heightened anxieties among European Union nations, which, according to the expert, must invest far greater resources into their defense industrial base. The warning comes as European nations reassess their security posture following Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Europe's Readiness for Armed Conflict
Given the current geopolitical climate, the question of Europe's preparedness for potential armed conflict remains critically urgent. Oleksiy Kushch emphasizes that this lack of readiness could have severe consequences for regional security.
Kushch's remarks paint a concerning picture of Europe's security situation, particularly in light of Russia's military assertiveness. The escalating tensions in the region demand that European countries overhaul their defense strategies and commit to significant investments in military infrastructure. The expert cautions that without adequate security measures, Europe could face profound challenges requiring immediate solutions and coordinated international action.
