The couple was discovered in a bathtub with water at a temperature of 50 degrees Celsius, and their death was determined to be due to poisoning, leading to severe dehydration and heatstroke, leaving their young daughter an orphan.

Both showed traces of cocaine and high levels of alcohol at the time of death.

“She is not a drug user,” the family of Ana Carolina de Silva stated in a comment to the media.

The family believes that possible forced drug use or poisoning may have led to the tragic outcome since the 42-year-old businesswoman was found without signs of life.

“With great outrage, we, the family of Ana Carolina de Silva … condemn the fake news that has been spread,” the statement reads.
“Although reports mention the presence of substances in her blood, we assert with complete certainty that Ana is not a drug user.”
“Considering the inconsistencies, we raise serious questions regarding possible forced drug use or poisoning and demand a thorough, transparent, and unbiased investigation,” the statement adds.

The family aims to “preserve Ana's memory and dignity so that the truth prevails over cruel and unjust speculations.”

“We will not allow her story to be diminished by unfounded assumptions,” the statement reads.
“We will continue seeking answers, confident that justice will be served.”

This statement became known on October 1, when police concluded their investigation.

According to the investigation, Ana and her husband, military police officer Jeferson Luiz Sagaz, 37, 'died from exogenous poisoning.'

The chief forensic expert Andressa Boer Fronza noted that the causes of death were “heat stroke with intense dehydration, heat collapse leading to organ failure and death.”

Investigators reported that the couple had fainted in a hot bath, while a heater created additional heat in the room.

Toxicology tests revealed high levels of alcohol and traces of cocaine, according to Globo G1.

The police also checked the couple's car and the motel's surveillance cameras.

The family stated that they demand a new, “independent” investigation.

The investigation recorded details that Ana and Jeferson celebrated their daughter's birthday in a food park where they consumed alcohol before heading to a nightclub.

After that, they checked into the Dallas motel in São José, Santa Catarina, shortly after midnight on August 11.

However, Jeferson and Ana Carolina did not return to pick up their daughter from Jeferson's sister the next morning.

Concerned relatives reported their disappearance, and the police later found the couple lifeless in the bathtub.

The police reported that there were no signs of violence.

Ana owned a nail salon and had been with Jeferson for about 20 years.

Their four-year-old daughter is now in the care of relatives after the tragic celebration that ended fatally.
