Fico complained about Zelensky to the heads of the Euro Council and the European Commission.
The Slovak Prime Minister is concerned about Ukraine's decision to halt the transit of Russian gas
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico expressed his concern regarding Ukraine's decision to stop the transit of Russian gas. He wrote an open letter to the leadership of the European Union, criticizing the decision made by President Volodymyr Zelensky without consultations with European institutions and other EU countries. The financial losses for Russia from this decision will amount to 2 billion euros, but he believes that Russia will be able to find other markets for its gas.
Dispute over electricity supply
The situation escalated when Fico threatened to stop the reserve electricity supply to Ukraine after January 1. Slovakia is the second-largest supplier of electricity to Ukraine, and President Zelensky accused Fico of following the orders of Russian President Putin and opening a 'second energy front' against Ukraine. This policy could lead to Slovakia losing at least 200 million dollars annually from electricity exports to Ukraine.
