The return of children to schools: how to avoid autumn illnesses.
According to The Sun: The return of children to school usually brings a wave of colds and coughs in families. According to Boots, a third of adults get sick in September as children catch viruses in classrooms.
GettyHere are some simple and free ways to protect your little ones from illness:
KEEP IT CLEAN
Good hygiene is the foundation for preventing the spread of infections. You can help by teaching children the basic rules.
Aimi Dickinson, deputy pharmacist at Boots, notes:
“Some of the key hygiene rules I recommend include washing hands thoroughly with warm water and soap for at least 20 seconds and using tissues to cover their mouth when coughing and sneezing.”
ENERGY NOTES
All children are entitled to free flu vaccinations as part of the NHS program. This vaccine is usually administered at school, but if not, you can ask your doctor or local pharmacy.
IMPORTANT VITAMINS
Children often have picky appetites, which can make it difficult to meet their needs. Aimi adds:
“It is recommended that all children aged six months to five years take certain vitamins daily.”
“Vitamins A, C, and D support a healthy immune system, and vitamin D helps maintain healthy bones.”
You can buy a pack of 60 children's vitamins at Sainsbury's for £3.
For children over four and adults, it is recommended to take a supplement of 10 micrograms of vitamin D daily in autumn and winter when there is not enough sunlight for its production.
FULL WATER SUPPLY
Ensuring adequate water intake is a simple and free way to support children's health.
Aimi emphasizes:
“It is recommended that children aged four to eight drink 1.1-1.3 liters of water daily.”
If children are playing actively or are ill, they should drink more. Keep a reusable water bottle handy to replenish supplies on the go.
