A New Security Paradigm for Ukraine: How the New Guarantees Differ from the Budapest Memorandum

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky held a meeting with European leaders and Donald Trump in Washington, which, although very restrained, brought important results that could change the approach to ensuring Ukraine's security. Political analyst Oleg Saakyan reported this.

'Zelensky's meeting with European leaders and Trump, although restrained and cautious, turned out to be very important and led to several significant outcomes,' the expert emphasized.

One of the key outcomes of the meeting was a discussion about a new security strategy for Ukraine. The focus is now on preventing aggression through the strengthening of the Ukrainian army, which differs from previous agreements.

'An agreement is being considered for the purchase of weapons from the USA for $100 billion, as well as the allocation of corresponding funds from Europe,' Saakyan explained.

The new approach aims to prevent violations of the ceasefire. Now, instead of a reactive response to aggression, the coalition has committed to making Ukraine so strong that Russia would not dare to violate the peace.

'All actions must be aimed at preventing violations of the ceasefire by Russia. Ukraine must be strong enough, and the coalition takes responsibility to provide Ukraine with the capabilities to defend against Russia. It becomes a shared responsibility for all, so that Russia cannot breach the peace,' Saakyan emphasized.

The change in approach involves investing in Ukraine immediately after a long-term ceasefire agreement is reached to avoid a potential new Russian attack.

'The approach is implemented through investments in Ukraine right after the establishment of a long-term ceasefire to secure ourselves against a potential breach of peace by Russia, which we do not trust and attribute intentions to breach the peace. This is a big leap forward,' the political analyst concluded.
Zelensky's key meeting with European leaders and Trump proved to be very important for the new strategy of ensuring Ukraine's security. The focus is now on preventing potential conflicts and protecting the country from Russia to ensure peace and stability in the region.
