Security Guarantees, Peacekeepers, and Trump: Zelensky Discusses the Path to End the War.
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, expressed his position regarding security guarantees and initiatives from Western partners for Ukraine. He stated this during an interview on national television on Thursday evening.
According to Zelensky, the elected U.S. president, Donald Trump, could play a decisive role in ending the war. 'I believe he is both strong and unpredictable. I would really like the unpredictability of President Trump to pertain primarily to the Russian Federation. I believe he genuinely wants to end the war,' Zelensky emphasized.
The president also compared security guarantees to the Israeli model. 'We take Israeli security guarantees and see how they intercept 200, 300, 500 missiles without NATO, but with the aviation of allies - the USA, France, Britain... Such security guarantees have not yet been received by Ukraine,' he noted.
Zelensky also expressed his support for the French initiative regarding the deployment of a peacekeeping contingent with one important caveat. 'We support such an initiative, but one France is not enough. We would not like it to be just one or two countries. This has to be on the path to NATO. This does not mean that the deployment of European Forces excludes a future in NATO,' the president stated.
Zelensky also named the cities that Russia plans to occupy by 2024.
