EU and NATO Leaders in Paris: What Security Guarantees are Being Prepared for Ukraine

According to inkorr.com: On September 4, leaders of the European Union and NATO will meet in Paris to discuss security issues for Ukraine. This meeting was initiated by French President Emmanuel Macron, as reported by The Financial Times.

Participants of the Meeting

The same leaders who visited Washington on August 18 will gather at the summit. Among the participants are: French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte.

Among the participants of the meeting in France will be German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.

Plans and Demands of Ukraine

Ursula von der Leyen previously stated that at the last meeting of the defense ministers of the 'Coalition of the Willing,' clear plans were developed regarding 'necessary elements for effective troop buildup.'

According to The Financial Times, Ukraine expects specific security guarantees from its Western partners, which involve the deployment of military forces on its territory as part of any peace agreement. This may include tens of thousands of European troops receiving support from the United States, particularly in the form of command and intelligence systems.

Moreover, the publication reminds that similar agreements were reached last month during a meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and European leaders.

It is also noted that Ukrainian President Zelensky may join the European leaders in Paris; however, no official information has yet been received regarding this matter.

The importance of this meeting is determined by the current security challenges facing Ukraine and the need for support from Western allies. Security guarantees during peace negotiations could significantly influence the further development of the situation in the region.
