According to inkorr.com: In Sydney, near the Consulate General of the Russian Federation, a car crashed into the gates of the diplomatic facility, reports ABC News.

Incident at the Consulate

According to the publication, a 39-year-old man arrived at the consulate in a white SUV around 8:00.

Witnesses reported that the driver allegedly climbed over the fence, entered the consulate grounds, and then returned to his car.

New South Wales police attempted to stop the man, but he rammed the gates and refused to exit the vehicle.

Injuries During the Incident

As a result of the incident, the vehicle's glass was damaged, and a 22-year-old police officer and a 25-year-old man were injured and received medical assistance at the scene.

To access the vehicle, police used special tools. Witnesses heard police commands directed at the driver: 'Get out of the car immediately' and 'Lie on the ground,' but the man did not respond.

'I stepped out and saw a policeman with a Glock pistol, who pointed it at the man in the car and asked him to exit the vehicle. He did not [get out of the car], but rammed the gates, drove onto the premises, and stopped again,' said a local resident.

Arrest of the Offender

The Australian Federal Police enlisted the diplomatic protection unit to assist in the arrest of the offender. The man was taken to the Surry Hills police station.

The man was charged with several offenses, including trespassing on enclosed grounds without proper cause, using a weapon to obstruct a police investigation, and possessing a knife in a public place. The vehicle was towed from the consulate's grounds.

'There is currently no threat to the consulate or the local community,' the police stated. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.

The incident underscores the importance of security for diplomatic missions amidst a tense global situation. Police assure that the situation is under control and that investigations involving relevant services will continue to prevent similar incidents in the future.
